Real Madrid Club de Fútbol was founded as Madrid Football Club in 1902, but was bestowed the “Real” title (meaning “royal” in Spanish) by King Alfonso XIII in 1920. It’s nicknames include Blancos (Whites), Merengues (Meringues) and Vikingos (Vikings).

Club Atlético de Madrid was founded in 1903 by three Basque students. It has later become known as Atlético Madrid, or simply Atlético. The have three nicknames as well: Atleti, Rojiblancos (Red-and-Whites) and Colchoneros (The Mattress Makers).

Emblem

Real Madrid’s emblem is a yellow circle, with the letters MCF inside. The crown on top of the circle was also introduced in 1920.

Zinedine Zidane is the current coach at Real Madrid, after playing for them from 2001-2006. The club’s chairman is Florentino Pérez.

The manager at Atlético Madrid is Diego Simeone, and the club had three owners including the president. The current King of Spain, Felipe VI, is also an honorary president

Stadium

Santiago Bernabéu has been the home of Read Madrid since 1944. It was built especially for them by their then president of the same name and it can host 85,454 spectators.

Atlético Madrid’s stadium is called Vicente Calderón and has been their ground since 1967. It was renovated in 1982 and now has a capacity of 54,907.
